Asuofua (Ash) Sept. 01, GNA – The Ghana Aids Commission in conjunction with the Atwima Nwabiagya North district assembly, has organized a free HIV and general health screening for residents of Asuofua in the district.
The exercise, which benefited over 356 residents, aimed at providing free testing, professional advice and necessary recommendations on HIV and other health issues to persons of all age groups in the community.
Mr. Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, the District Chief Executive (DCE) speaking at the ceremony, said the health and well-being of the people was one of the highest priorities of the Assembly.
He said that healthy living promoted and provided the energy to work to increase productivity, make profit and improve livelihoods.
He said, to promote healthcare and preventive health measures as well as the reduction of the spread of preventable diseases and control, the Assembly decided to organize such health exercises to ensure the people had access to affordable health service.
He urged the people to take full advantage of the program to improve their health status.
Some beneficiaries, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) commended the Assembly for the exercise and asked for regular health screenings in communities.
Mr. Ernest Asamoah, the Asuofua Polyclinic HIV Coordinator, called for regular HIV testing for sexually active persons, who might have multiple partners, to help them know their status.
He commended the stakeholders for ensuring the success of the program and urged the public to practice the teachings they got from the public education which formed part of the exercise.
