Bolgatanga, Sept. 18, GNA – Dr Clement Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Builsa South Constituency, has authorised the release of GH¢370,000 from his share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of severely deteriorated sections of selected roads in the constituency.
A statement from his office said the intervention was intended to address immediate road challenges confronting communities, while efforts continued to secure major government-funded road projects for the area.
The statement, signed by Mr Samson Samari, Special Aide to the MP, said the funds would be used for reshaping, fixing and maintaining sections of seven road projects across the Constituency.
Per the statement, both the Doninga–Kanjarga and the Doninga–Siniensi Roads were allocated GH¢50,000 each, the Uwasi–Fumbisi Road, GH¢40,000, Kanjarga–Fumbisi Road, GH¢100,000, the Nyambisa Road and Bridge: GH¢30,000.
The statement added that the Wiesi–Fumbisi Road was allocated GH¢50,000.
It said an amount of GH¢50,000 was earlier released for emergency works on sections of the Uwasi–Fumbisi and Zamsa–Fumbisi Roads following concerns from residents, farmers, traders and transport operators over the deteriorating condition of the routes.
Dr Apaak, who is the Deputy Minister for Education, said the decision followed his personal assessment of the challenges faced by residents using the roads.
“During my visit to the constituency, I saw firsthand the difficulties residents, farmers, and traders go through on these roads, and I listened carefully to their concerns,” the statement said.
The statement stressed the importance of road infrastructure to local economic and social development saying, “Good roads are essential for development. They connect our people to opportunities, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.”
The MP’s Office acknowledged that major road projects were within the remit of central government agencies, but said available resources could be used to respond to urgent needs.
“While major road projects remain the responsibility of central government agencies, I believe it is important to utilize available resources to address some of the immediate challenges facing our communities,” the statement said.
It said the road interventions were expected to improve mobility, reduce transportation difficulties and costs, facilitate trade and improve access to essential services within the constituency.
The statement noted that the MP was also continuing to push for progress on larger road projects in the area.
According to the statement, the MP has been urging the contractor working on the Builsa South section of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiesi Road to accelerate work.
The statement further indicated that the Doninga–Sandema Road, which it described as being in a “terrible state,” was expected to receive attention soon, with a contractor expected to move to site.
Dr Apaak is also engaging the Minister for Roads and Highways to pursue the rehabilitation of feeder roads across the constituency.
His office said the MP would continue engaging the Government, Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Feeder Roads and other stakeholders to secure more comprehensive and sustainable road infrastructure projects for the constituency.
The statement expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, assembly members, community leaders, transport operators and residents for their cooperation and support towards the development of Builsa South.
Dr Apaak, according to the statement, remains committed to pursuing practical interventions aimed at improving accessibility and supporting the socio-economic development of constituents.
