Nyagbo Agodome (V/R), Sept. 18, GNA – The Afadzato South District Assembly is taking steps to tackle water challenges across the district with a planned 50 water projects aimed at improving access to the commodity.
A new water project, being championed by Mr Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive, is currently underway near the Community Centre at Nyagbo Agordome.
The project would bring renewed hope and provide easier access to safe drinking water for residents in that part of the community.
The project, when completed, is expected to serve a significant number of households around the Community Centre enclave who have over the years struggled with access to reliable water supply.
According to Mr Tawiah, the Assembly has already undertaken similar water interventions in several communities as part of its first phase of implementation which was estimated to GHS4,321,093.10
He mentioned communities such as Emil, Kpeve Old Town, Have Atsiamé, Goviefe Kowu and Goviefe Todzi as some of the beneficiaries of the completed projects.
With Nyagbo Agodome now added to the list, speaking with Ghana News Agency, Mr Manfred Tawiah said, the Assembly was steadily delivering on its commitment to ensure no community is left behind in the provision of basic social amenities.
For residents who live around the Community Centre, the ongoing project comes as a major relief, as it is expected to reduce the long distance they travel to fetch water from the existing borehole near Mr Gedia’s house.
Mr Gameli Ndor, a resident at Nyagbo, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed joy about the project, noting that it would save them time and energy, especially for women and children who bear the brunt of water collection.
He said that access to potable water remains a top priority for the Assembly, stressing that water is essential for health, education and economic productivity.
He added that the initiative is part of the Assembly’s broader strategic programme to improve access to safe drinking water and sustainably address water-related challenges confronting all communities in the Afadzato South District.
