All five killed in Amazon plane crash were in cleaning company van

Washington, Sept 8. (dpa/GNA) – All five people killed in the crash of an Amazon cargo plane at Miami International Airport, were travelling in a van struck by the aircraft, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The van, which was carrying seven people, belonged to a cleaning company that provides services to airlines, the local sheriff’s office said. Those killed were aged between 47 and 75.

The cargo plane overshot the runway at the airport in the US state of Florida on Sunday afternoon, and collided with two vehicles.

Five people were killed and five others injured in the accident. The cause remains unclear.

The aircraft had departed from Puerto Rico. Miami International Airport temporarily suspended flight operations following the accident.

The incident came during a busy travel weekend in Florida, a major tourist destination, with many Americans travelling ahead of a public holiday on Monday. Miami International is one of the busiest airports in the United States.
