Agate (V/R), Sept. 23, GNA- Mr Frank Afriyie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Afadzato South, has inspected ongoing works on an ultra-modern boys’ dormitory block at Agate Community Senior High School (SHS) in the Volta Region.
The visit formed part of his tour of ongoing development projects in the constituency to assess progress of work and ensure value for money.
The project, when completed, is expected to ease congestion in the existing dormitory and provide decent and secure accommodation for male students of the school.
Mr Afriyie was accompanied by some constituency executives, officials from the District Assembly and representatives from the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
He was briefed by the site engineer, who said work on the two-storey facility was about 50 per cent.
The engineer said the dormitory would have a capacity of over 300 beds, with washrooms, study areas, and a housemaster’s apartment to improve supervision.
Mr Afriyie commended the contractor for the quality of work done so far and urged him to expedite action to ensure the project was completed on schedule.
He said improved accommodation was critical to enhancing academic performance, discipline and student welfare, especially as enrolment had increased following the Free SHS policy.
The MP assured the school authorities and students of his commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the district.
He said education remained his top priority, noting that investment in infrastructure was an investment in the future of the youth of Afadzato South.
“Development is coming to Agate SHS. We will ensure that no student learns under difficult conditions. This dormitory will be completed and furnished for our boys to have a comfortable place to stay and learn,” Mr Afriyie assured Ghana News Agency during his visit.
The Headmaster of the school, on behalf of staff and students, thanked the MP for his continuous support and lobbying for development projects for the school.
He said the school was faced with other infrastructure challenges, including the need for a modern science laboratory, dining hall expansion and staff accommodation, and appealed for further assistance.
