Adzato (V/R), Sept. 9, GNA – Mr Abraham Apetorgbor Lumor, the Assembly Member of Adzato Electoral Area in the Anloga District, has appealed for funds to organise the third edition of the Annual Quiz Competition for Basic schools in his electoral area.

An amount of GHS11,855 being sought for, is the budget to enable the organisers to mobilise the needed logistics for a smooth competition.

Mr Lumor, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, explained that the quiz competition, now in its third year in the Volta Region, had become an annual initiative aimed at bringing healthy academic competition among learners and improving the quality of education within the Adzato Electoral Area.

“The competition has, over the past two years, brought together four basic schools within our electoral area; namely R.C. Basic School, Adzato; E.P. Basic School, Akplorfudzi; D.A. Basic School, Kpordui, and R.C. Basic School, Sodzi, all of which are expected to take part in this year’s edition,” he said.

Mr Lumor disclosed that this year’s quiz competition had been scheduled for October 16, at the E.P. Basic School, Akplorfudzi, at 0900 hours, and appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the initiative to ensure the success and sustenance of the programme.

He said the support could be given in the form of cash, school bags, medals, textbooks, notebooks, exercise books, mathematical sets or any other educational materials that would help sustain the programme and motivate participating pupils.

“In a breakdown, our budget shows that the bulk of the funds would go toward cash prizes for winners estimated at GHS 2,500,” while others like textbooks would cost GHS 1,280, school bags GHS 1,200, transportation and logistics for participating schools at GHS 1,500, and refreshments for participants estimated at GHS 1,500, he said.

He also cited other items including medals, certificates, canopies, plastic chairs, sound system rental and printing costs as part of the accruing budget.

Mr Lumor stated that individuals and organisations wishing to support the initiative could channel their donations through an Anlo Rural Bank PLC account registered in his name, with account number 5071210000175331, or via Mobile Money on 0244368248, and promised that all contributions would be dedicated strictly to the successful execution of the quiz competition and duly accounted for.

The Assembly Member expressed appreciation to all who had supported the initiative over the past two editions, which contributed towards sustaining the programme, giving pupils within the electoral area an opportunity to compete academically and build confidence in the classroom.

He further appealed for support to ensure that the initiative does not become “a nine-day wonder,” and stressed the commitment to making the annual quiz competition a lasting feature of academic life within the Adzato Electoral Area,

He encouraged prospective donors to reach out to him directly on 0244368248 or 0543219788 for further information.

Some stakeholders within the education sector of the Anloga District who spoke with GNA also commended the initiative, describing it as a commendable grassroots effort to promote healthy academic rivalry and improve learning outcomes among basic school pupils, within the Adzato Electoral Area and beyond.
