Atortorkorpe (Ada), Sept. 23, GNA – Residents, youth leaders and other stakeholders of Ada-Foah in the Ada East District have petitioned the District Security Committee (DISEC) to intervene in an alleged blockage of a community access road, footpath and waterway at Maano.
The petition, dated September 22, 2026, followed a town hall meeting held at the Ada-Foah Tettegah Community Square, during which residents raised concerns about the extension of a fence wall belonging to the Dada Family House.
The petitioners, led by Mr Mark Nii Adjei Sowah, the Assembly Member for Foah Wem Electoral Area, and Nomo Isaac Tetteh Sarpor, Ada-Foah Youth Leader, alleged that the new construction had extended beyond the previous fence line and encroached on a longstanding route between the Dada Family House and the Dede Ngmlongmlokie Family House.
They said the route had been used by residents for generations as a vehicular and pedestrian access to the riverside and a public toilet.
The petitioners, the previous fence wall was recently pulled down, and a new foundation was constructed beyond its original position, allegedly restricting vehicular and pedestrian movement through the area.
They also expressed concern that the construction could obstruct an existing waterway or drainage route, potentially increasing the risk of flooding and damage to adjoining properties during heavy rainfall.
The residents therefore called on DISEC, the Ada East District Assembly’s Physical Planning Department and other relevant institutions to conduct an urgent site inspection to establish the status and boundaries of the affected road, footpath and waterway.

They also asked for a halt to construction in the disputed area, the removal of any obstruction if encroachment was found, and an assessment of damage to the road and drainage system.
The petitioners also urged the authorities to determine whether the necessary planning and development permits had been obtained and investigate an allegation of improper involvement by some district assembly officials in facilitating the development.
Mr Kenneth Kabu Kofi Kanor, Ada East District Chief Executive, who received the petition on behalf of DISEC, commended the youth for resorting to the authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands and pledged that the necessary action would be taken to address the situation.
