Abor (VR), Sept. 1, GNA – Mr Eric Akuamoah, Project Manager of Mighty Industries Limited, has disclosed that construction of the ultra-modern 24-hour economy market at Abor in the Keta Municipality is progressing steadily.
He said the project was currently at the foundation stage, with about eight to 10 per cent completed.
Mr Akuamoah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the site, said construction began on June 21, 2026, as part of the Government’s flagship initiative to transform Abor into a vibrant round-the-clock trading hub, leveraging its long-established night trading culture and strategic location along the ECOWAS highway.
“As you can see, we are seriously at work. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months, in line with the scope of works agreed upon by the Keta Municipal Assembly and Mighty Industries Limited,” he said.
He explained that although the project was still at its early stages, work had progressed without major setbacks since site clearance and mobilisation began, with the company committed to meeting the delivery timeline.
Mr Akuamoah disclosed that about 70 per cent of the workforce were indigenes from Abor and other surrounding communities within the Keta Municipality.
He said the deliberate engagement of local youth was intended to create employment opportunities, support livelihoods and build a sense of ownership of the facility among residents.
According to him, the company had also trained and engaged local artisans and labourers on the project.
Mr Akuamoah commended the traditional authorities, opinion leaders and residents of Abor for their continued cooperation and support, which he said had contributed to the smooth progress of the project.
He also expressed appreciation to Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta, and Mr Wisdom Seade, Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), for their sustained interest in the project.
He said their regular visits and engagements with the contractor had helped maintain a cordial atmosphere at the site.
The Project Manager said the completed facility would feature modern stores, sheds, a crèche, police post, fire post, borehole and standby power generator, among other facilities, to support uninterrupted trading during the day and night.
He assured traders and residents affected by the demolition of temporary structures ahead of construction that the company was mindful of their concerns and would work with the Assembly to ensure a smooth transition into the new market when completed.
Mr Akuamoah appealed to the public, particularly traders and transport operators using the Abor market, to exercise patience during construction, assuring them that the long-term benefits of the facility would outweigh the temporary inconveniences.
He reaffirmed Mighty Industries Limited’s commitment to delivering a quality, durable and functional facility within the stipulated 30-month period, in line with the Government’s vision of positioning Abor as a model 24-hour economy market centre in the Volta Region.
