Tamale, Sept 25, GNA – Mr Abdul Karim Abubakari, Board Member, Students Loan Trust Fund, has declared his intention to contest the position of Northern Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Abubakari announced his bid for the position at a press conference in Tamale.
He said his decision was motivated by his desire to contribute to the effective leadership and development of the youth in the region.
He said he was particularly concerned about the education and skills development of young people, which he identified as key to their empowerment and participation in the socio-economic development of the region.
Mr Abubakari said education should not be limited to formal schooling but should also encompass informal education and skills training to equip young people with practical knowledge and competencies.
He said the NDC had made provisions for young people to access various forms of education and skills development, adding there was a need for a youth front that remained focused on translating such opportunities into meaningful development outcomes.
He pledged to make youth development, education and skills training key areas of focus if given the mandate to serve as the Regional Youth Organiser.
Mr Abubakari also emphasized that his campaign would be based on the principle of unity, saying collective efforts among the party’s regional executives, parliamentary candidates and grassroots members could strengthen the NDC’s position in the region.
He said “I come on the front of unity. I believe that we can keep winning more of our seats on the back of unity.”
He identified Tolon, Karaga, Savelugu and Bimbilla as constituencies where he believed the party could work collectively to regain parliamentary seats.
He said the party would also have to consolidate constituencies it currently held particularly those where the margins were relatively narrow.
Mr Abubakari cited Yendi as one of the constituencies that would require strategic attention to ensure that the party maintained its position there.
He said his proposed approach would therefore combine youth development with unity, grassroots, mobilisation and constituency-specific strategies.
He expressed confidence that with collective work and effective coordination, the party could strengthen its presence across the region.
