Takoradi, Aug. 25, GNA – Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has paid GH¢39,110 in medical bills for a road accident victim receiving treatment at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi.
The beneficiary, Mr Emmanuel Etroo, a rubber tapper, has been on admission at the hospital since February 15, 2026, after a sprinter bus collided with his motorbike at Ewusiejoe on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta Road, leaving him with a severe fracture to his right leg.
Over the past six months, Mr Etroo underwent four surgical procedures and received other medical treatment, resulting in the accumulation of the hospital bill.
Mr Nelson intervened after watching a viral video in which a nurse at the hospital appealed to the public to support the victim.
During a visit to the hospital to settle the outstanding bills, the Regional Minister said he was touched by the victim’s plight and decided to offer assistance.
“I came here because of you, following the viral video by Linda, the nursing officer,” he said.
“It touched me to come and assist, so I am paying your outstanding bill and paying for the next surgery as well, while giving you an extra GHC5,000 to take care of yourself when you go home.”
In addition to supporting Mr Etroo, Mr Nelson presented an undisclosed amount of money to patients at the Male Orthopaedic Ward to help ease their medical expenses.
Mr Alfred Acquah Asiedu, Shift-in-Charge of the Male Surgical Ward at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister on behalf of the beneficiaries.
He said the gesture would bring significant relief to Mr Etroo and other patients struggling to meet their medical costs.
Mr Asiedu commended the Minister for demonstrating compassion and support for vulnerable patients in need of assistance.
