Twifo Hemang (C/R), Aug. 4, GNA – Mr Isaac Agyiri, Executive Director of the Showbuoy Foundation, has donated 500 catfish fingerlings, fish feed and medication to support fish farming at Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region.
The initiative forms part of efforts to encourage schools and students to venture into fish farming and contribute to food security.
Mr Agyiri said agriculture remained the backbone of the country’s food system, and equipping students with practical skills in aquaculture would inspire them to become self-reliant agripreneurs capable of transforming local food systems.
He said the Foundation had partnered with experts from Saviour Farms to provide comprehensive technical support and training for students and teachers to ensure effective management of the fish farm.
Mrs Mary Arkoh, Chief Executive Officer of Saviour Farms, said she would undertake periodic visits to the school to provide technical guidance and ensure a successful harvest.
She urged the students to apply the knowledge acquired and take advantage of the opportunity to improve their future livelihoods.
Mrs Arkoh also promised the school access to a ready market for its fish produce to reduce the burden of transporting products in search of buyers.
Mrs Agnes Amoah, Headmistress of the school, expressed appreciation to the Showbuoy Foundation for its continued support for agricultural education and pledged to ensure the sustainability of the project.
The students also expressed gratitude to the Foundation for supporting the school with the fish farming initiative.
