Atebubu (Bono East), Aug.10, GNA – Nana Sarfowaa, the Queen mother of the Atebubu Yam Market Association in the Bono East Region, has performed traditional rites to open the harvest and sale of yam in the crop season.
She said the area had experienced a bumper harvest in the season and poured libation to express appreciation to their ancestors and the local deity for the bountiful crop season.
At a brief ceremony at the Atebubu Yam Market, Nana Sarfowaa said: “We have to thank our ancestors for the fertility of the land and a rich harvest.”
She reminded the yam sellers that with the performance of the customary rites, they were all expected to sell their produce in the market and not along the roadside.
The Queen mother explained that the custom unified farmers, marketers and traditional leaders as they transitioned into the new harvest cycle.
Nana Sarfowaa expressed concern about the poor sanitary conditions at the market and called on the Atebubu and Amantin Municipal Assembly to upgrade the facility to enhance public health and safety.
