Nima needs a distinctive modern development package – Prince Mba

Accra, Aug 19, GNA – Mr Prince Bagnaba Mba, President of Forum for Equity has reminded the government that the development of Nima into a modern city centre will be a legacy in perpetuity.

“For so long many political parties have made it an issue of paramount interest, but sadly there’s no any pragmatic approach to actualise this necessary national issue”.

He said Nima is in the heart of Accra, the National capital and is one of the most cosmopolitan urban slum settlements.

“With an ever increasing vibrant youthful population, who are mostly unemployed, it poses as a threat to national security and   consciousness “.

Mr Mba said from post independence, the call for developing Nima into a modern high rise apartments with parks and entertainment facilities seems to only be echoing only during election seasons and progressive development was necessary and important as it boosted Rapid economic transformation.

He said the Koforidua zongo was transformed by the late Col Minyilla, when he pulled down all the old structures and built a housing estate.

“We need the leadership that will dare the consequences, and do the right thing. It’s long overdue for slums in the heart of our cities and the time to act is now.”
