NaCCA warns schools against unapproved assessment materials

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed pre-tertiary schools to stop using unapproved assessment items and mock examinations.

“No school shall administer any externally developed assessment item or task unless it has been vetted and approved by NaCCA.”

A statement issued and signed by Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe, Director-General of NaCCA, said the directive followed concerns over the continued use of assessment materials developed by unapproved consortiums, institutions and individuals in some basic schools.

“The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has observed with serious concern the continued use of assessment items and mock examinations developed by unapproved consortiums, institutions and individuals in some Basic Schools across the country.

“The public is hereby reminded that NaCCA is the statutory body mandated to approve all assessment items and tasks for Pre-tertiary Schools in Ghana.

“Accordingly, no school shall administer any externally developed assessment item or task unless it has been vetted and approved by NaCCA,” the statement said.

The statement directed all heads of pre-tertiary schools to comply with the directive with immediate effect.

It said schools that procured, administered or facilitated the use of unapproved assessment materials would be liable to appropriate regulatory sanctions.
