Salman (W/R), Aug. 11, GNA-The Minerals Commission is set to take over operations at Adamus Resources Limited, a gold prospecting company in the Ellembelle District.
The intended takeover takes immediate effect following a decision by Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to uphold the revocation of ADAMUS Mine leases.
The Lands Minister announced this during a visit to Adamus plant site at Salman in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
He was accompanied by Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle; Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister: Mr Isaac Tandoh, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission; Mr Francis Annobil Jnr., the Western Regional Director of the Minerals Commission and Mr Joseph Frimpong, Chief Inspector of Mines among others.
It would be recalled that the government revoked the mining leases of ADAMUS Resources Limited following a report of illegalities and infractions of the Mining and Minerals laws by the Minerals Commission.
Madam Angela List, thr Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ADAMUS Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Nguvu Mining Company, petitioned the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources over the revocation of the Company’s mining leases in Accra.
However, speaking to management of the ADAMUS Mines, industry players and employees at the plant site at Salman, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah was categorical that based upon recommendations of the Review Committee (Interim Management Committee) set up by the Ministry, the government had upheld the revocation of ADAMUS Mine leases.
The Lands Minister charged the Interim Management Committee to be reporting to the Minerals Commission until further notice as the latter takes administrative control over the Mine.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said: “The objective of government is to ensure that the Mine was working and the right investments are made to create a safe environment for workers and make the Mine more vibrant and long-lasting once again.”
He assured employees at the Mine of job security, welfare and payment of their salaries for the last couple of months and motivation to stay intact.
Madam Mawufemor Otsyina, a Seasoned Processing Manager who is the Chairperson of the Interim Management Committee, highlighted key issues faced at the Mine during the tenure following government revocation of ADAMUS mining leases.
She said the Committee worked to stabilise operations amid regulatory and operational challenges.
Madam Otsyina explained that the recent rainfall pattern in May / June increased the volume of water in the dam leading to a spill over and subsequent shut down of the Mine.
She said the situation affected employees of the Company who have been asked to stay home without pay for the past two months.
