Sekondi, Aug. 6, GNA – The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has donated household supplies to the female section of the Sekondi Central Prison as part of activities marking its annual week celebration.
The group also screened 22 inmates, comprising 15 convicts, four remand prisoners and three persons under trial.
Mr Raymond Badu Yeboah, Second Vice Chairman of the Regional GRNMA, said the gesture was aimed at making the inmates feel loved and remembered despite their current circumstances.
“We still care and remember them as part of society. We are also screening them on hypertension, sugar levels, eyes, weight status and any other condition for the necessary care and advice,” he said.
The inmates were earlier educated on personal hygiene.
ASP Justina Nana Ahima Woode, Public Relations Officer for the Female Prison, expressed appreciation to the GRNMA for the support and appealed to other institutions to assist inmates with logistics to enhance the technical and vocational skills acquired from the National Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI).
