Paga (U/E), Aug. 14, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has selected 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 project which were at least 70 per cent complete, for priority completion this year.

He said the government had made the necessary budgetary allocations to ensure that the selected projects were completed, stressing that it was committed to continuing the Agenda 111 programme.

President Mahama made the announcement when he commissioned an  E-block facility at the Paga Senior High School in the Upper East Region, as part of his resetting agenda tour of the area.

He said the 35 hospitals, which had reached 70 per cent completion and above, had been selected across the country for completion this year.

“Next year, we are selecting another 20 that are 50 per cent and above. But we were giving priority to districts that do not have health facilities,” he said.

The President said the government would not abandon the Agenda 111 projects, adding that the 35 selected hospitals would be awarded on contract for completion this year.

He explained that another 20 projects would be awarded for completion in 2027, with a further 20 to be considered in 2028.

“We are going to continue and finish them. We will finish the 35,” President Mahama stated.

The Agenda 111 hospital project was initiated to provide district hospitals in areas without such health facilities.

In a speech read on his behalf, Pe Charles Awampaga II, the Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area, commended the President for completing the E-Block to expand access to education to students.

He appealed to the government to include Paga in the selected Agenda 111 projects for completion.

He also appealed to the government to deepen security presence in the area, taking into consideration the instability and threats of violent extremism in neighbouring Burkina Faso and the other Sahel regions.
