Takoradi, Aug. 04, GNA-The Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC), says it is anticipating a production capacity of 700,000 tonnes in August this year.
This major operational milestone is attributed to a decline in rainfall and the acquisition of new heavy equipment, a significant step toward the company’s annual target of eight million tonnes.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Sun Yuanwei, Group Deputy Manager, GMC said as Ghana’s sole manganese Miner and exporter, it operated the Nsuta open pit Mine in the Western Region.
The company noted that seasonal rains typically impacted haulage and processing and data showed a decline in shipment of the commodity between May and July this year due to a temporary slowdown caused by wet-season disruptions.
The statement said GMC remained focused on maintaining its position at the lower end of the cost curve through operational innovation.
“Beyond serving as a critical manganese ore supplier to the global steel industry, the company’s high-grade manganese ore is increasingly recognized as a strategic resource for the new-energy battery supply chain,” Mr. Sun said.
The statement said GMC aimed to secure stable supply to international markets, while supporting the Government of Ghana’s value-addition strategy, including the planned manganese refining plant, which is expected to generate greater local economic benefits.
The company expressed hope for an overwhelming operational performance in the second half of the year.
“The company will continue to monitor weather conditions and leverage its newly deployed high-efficiency fleet to ensure full-year production targets are met,” the statement added.
