GES probes alleged sexual assault at Bolgatanga Girls SHS

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School over an alleged sexual assault involving a student.

The two watchmen have been arrested and handed over to the Police, while investigations into the alleged incident are underway.

A statement issued and signed by Mr Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the GES, said the Service had received a report of alleged sexual assault involving the student and the two watchmen.

It said a preliminary report indicated that the student “is a special needs student” who was on medication.

The statement said the student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention, during which period the alleged incident occurred.

“As an initial step, the two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigations.”

The GES said the watchmen had been interdicted pending the outcome of the investigations.

“Based on the outcome of the investigations Management will apply the appropriate sanctions in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.”

The Service said it would not tolerate conduct that compromised the safety and well-being of students and urged all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

It also urged staff to protect the safety, dignity and well-being of every student.

The GES assured parents, guardians and the public that the matter was being “treated with seriousness it deserves.”
