Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – The Ministry of Education has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the violent disturbance at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
The Ministry has also directed the GES to apply appropriate disciplinary sanctions against all persons found culpable.
A statement signed by Dr Clement Abass Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education, on behalf of the sector Minister and issued to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the Ministry condemned the incident and considered the acts reprehensible and criminal.
“Such conduct has no place within Ghana’s educational institutions and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the statement said.
“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that discipline remains the foundation of quality education.
“We wants to assure the public that it will continue to work closely with the GES and other relevant state institutions to uphold discipline, safeguard school leaders, and stdents to ensure that schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning,” it said.
Some students of the school on Wednesday, Aug. 5, allegedly attacked Mr Abdulai Zakaria, the Headmaster, following a violent confrontation.
The students allegedly accused the Headmaster of engaging in ritual activities on campus.
Six students suspected of playing various roles in the physical attack on the Headmaster have been arrested by the police for investigation.
