Sunyani, (Bono), Aug 3, GNA – The Bono Regional chapter of the Cyber Security Experts Association of Ghana (CSEAG), has sensitised school children on child online protection and cyber bullying.
According to Mr Joshua Kwadwo Kyere, a member of the CSEAG, the sensitization was in line with a capacity building campaign being implemented in basic schools nationwide.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the sensitization in Sunyani, Mr Kyere explained that the campaign aimed at educating the learners on cyber security.
It sought to equip them with the requisite knowledge and tools to “navigate through the digital space safely and responsibly,” he added.
Learners at the Sunyani Ridge Experimental ‘C’ Basic School are taking online safety tips, risks and dangers as well as sharing personal and sensitive information online.
Mr. Kyere expressed concern about the abusive and unproductive use of new media, worrying about the exposure of children to harmful social media content.
The campaign therefore sought to inculcate in the younger generation the practical steps for reporting and responding to cyber bullying and how to identify and avoid online predators.
Mr Kyere pledged the association dedication to extend the campaign to many schools in the region.
He said early cyber education remained one of the most effective tools in protecting children in an increasingly interconnected world.
