Ho, Aug. 4, GNA – Madam Stella Mawutor, the Volta Regional Director of Social Welfare says eradicating human trafficking requires a preventative, community-led approach.
She urged community members to maintain a high level of vigilance and proactively report any suspicious behavior relating to human trafficking to the appropriate authorities.
Madam Mawutor made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency as the nation celebrated this year’s World Day Against Human Trafficking.
The Director said the year’s celebration focused on youth exploitation disguised as sports prospects, stating that eradication of human trafficking required prevention strategies driven by local communities.
She emphasised community alertness as vital for ensuring quick responses from law enforcement and rescue agencies, to protect vulnerable victims.
The Director stated that fraudulent recruiters increasingly lured the youth abroad with deceptive promises of lucrative employment, urging families to meticulously vet travel and athletic opportunities.
She reaffirmed the Department’s unwavering commitment to combating human rights violations, prioritising robust prevention and rapid response strategies across the region.
Madam Mawutor said her outfit had scaled up its community advocacy campaigns, focusing on sexual and gender-based violence, human trafficking, child abuse and exploitation.
The Director stated that safeguarding vulnerable populations remained central to their operational focus, noting that vulnerability was not age-dependent but spanned the entire human life cycle.
