Accra, Aug. 7, GNA – The Black Queens of Ghana have secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a hard fought 1-1 draw with Mali in their final Group C match on Thursday night.
Needing only a point to progress, the Black Queens showed resilience and composure to earn the result, securing a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
Ghana took the lead before the first half when Evelyn Badu found the back of the net in added time of the first half.
The Black Queens displayed great discipline in the second half, frustrating Mali’s attacking efforts while creating opportunities of their own as they searched for a winner.
Despite late pressure from the Malians, Ghana’s defence stood firm, with the team showing determination and tactical awareness to share the spoils.
The result was enough to see the Black Queens advance to the quarterfinals, marking a significant achievement for the side after an encouraging group stage campaign.
