Sege, Aug. 20, GNA -The Ada Senior High Technical School (ASTECH) has secured a historic qualification to compete at the national stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition for the first time in the school’s history.
The achievement is an important turning point for the school, located in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region, after several years of competing for a place in the highly competitive national contest.
ASTECH finished second behind Chemu Senior High School in the Greater Accra Regional Contest, while Osudoku Senior High School placed third.
The school subsequently secured one of Prime-Time’s 30 qualification slots reserved for the best-performing runner-up schools, earning it a place at the national stage.
In response to the historic achievement, the Ada Secondary Technical Old Students’ Association (ASTOSA) has prioritised preparations to support the team ahead of the national competition.
As part of its support, the association presented branded T-shirts and a cash prize to the contestants during a brief ceremony at the school.
Receiving the items on behalf of the NSMQ team, Mr Thomas Raphael Vroom, Headmaster of ASTECH, commended the contestants for their dedication and commitment, which culminated in the school’s historic qualification.
“The journey began from somewhere to where they are now. They have done a great job because I am reliably informed that this is their first qualification to this stage, and without their commitment, they wouldn’t have been where they are,” he said.
Mr Vroom expressed appreciation to members of ASTOSA for responding promptly to the team’s needs and supporting its preparations for the national competition.
He encouraged the old students to continue motivating and supporting the contestants as they prepare for the national stage.
“I want you, as their brothers and sisters, to encourage them. They need more encouragement than anything at this stage,” he said.
The headmaster also stressed the importance of comprehensive preparation, urging the team and its coordinators to cover a wider range of topics to improve their chances in the various competition rounds.
The main contestants are Master Amesinu Emmanuel Senyo and Master Soka Christopher, while Master Garna Bless Adu Joseph is the substitute contestant, with Master Laryea Benjamin and Dela Ablorde serving as supporters.
The team is led by Mr Eric Dorwodoe as Head of Team, with Mr Fredrick Agyiri serving as Team Coordinator.
ASTECH’s maiden appearance at the national NSMQ stage represents a significant milestone for the school and its students, reflecting the dedication of the contestants, coaches, school management, old students, and the wider school community to promoting academic excellence.
The qualification is expected to further inspire students of the school to pursue excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and raise the school’s profile on the national academic competition stage.
