Kumasi, Aug. 2, GNA – Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called for greater investment in the financial empowerment and professional capacity development of media practitioners to enable them to deliver quality journalism.
He said while continuous training remained important in the rapidly evolving digital media landscape, journalists also needed financial stability to perform their duties effectively and maintain high professional standards.
Mr Domfeh made the call at a media and stakeholder forum organised by MTN Ghana at Kumasi to strengthen engagement with journalists and other stakeholders.
He appealed to MTN Ghana to complement its longstanding support for the media by introducing initiatives aimed at building the financial resilience of journalists in the Ashanti Region.
“I think we need a lot of capacity building for our media practitioners, especially in this era of new media,” he said.
“We also want our members to have financial freedom from most of the challenges they face.
It is essential for journalists to be financially secure so they can give off their best while taking care of their families and daily responsibilities.”
Mr Domfeh commended MTN Ghana for its cordial relationship with the media over the years and expressed the hope that the partnership would continue to grow.
He praised the company’s consistent engagement with journalists, describing the relationship as mutually beneficial.
The Regional Chairman also encouraged journalists to use such gatherings to strengthen professional networks and build lasting relationships with colleagues across different media organisations.
He noted that beyond interactions with MTN officials, the forum provided an opportunity for journalists to know one another better, share experiences and foster collaboration.
Mr Domfeh said stronger professional relationships among media practitioners would contribute to improving journalism practice and advancing the profession in the region.
