Banahenekrom (Ash), Aug. 31, GNA – The Ahafo Ano South-East District in the Ashanti Region has emerged as the best-performing district in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the region, placing third nationwide.
Mr. Hamid Kramo, the District Director of Education, said the district ranked first among the 43 districts in the Ashanti region, with more than 600 of the 1,752 candidates who sat for the examination recording aggregate scores between six and nine.
He attributed the feat to the collective efforts of teachers, school authorities, parents, learners and other stakeholders, saying their commitment to improving the quality of education in the district was yielding positive results.
Mr. Kramo disclosed this at Banahenekrom during the commissioning of a newly constructed three-unit classroom block with toilet facilities for the Banahenekrom Junior High School (JHS).
He said the achievement was particularly significant because the district continued to face challenges in educational infrastructure and resources.
The District Director said the first place ranking in the region demonstrated that the dedication of teachers and learners, coupled with support from stakeholders, could produce positive outcomes despite the challenges.
He further disclosed that the district had placed third nationwide in the NaSIA Ghana Schools Awards, describing the feat as another indication of the growing national recognition of the district’s educational achievements.
Mr. Kramo urged stakeholders to build on the gains made and intensify efforts to improve the district’s performance in future examinations and national rankings.
He attributed part of the district’s success to the support received from the Ahafo Ano South-East District Assembly and the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Yakubu Mohammed.
He said the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Nelson Yamba Isaka Ibrahim, and the MP had consistently supported education through financial and material assistance, as well as investments in educational infrastructure and teaching and learning materials.
According to him, those interventions had complemented the efforts of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and contributed to creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Kramo expressed appreciation to the Assembly and the MP for prioritising education and supporting initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes in the district.
He also disclosed that the district had received 80 newly posted teachers, describing the development as a major boost to education delivery.
The District Director said the newly constructed classroom block would improve the teaching and learning environment at Banahenekrom JHS and contribute to better educational outcomes.
