Asiwa (Ash), Aug. 29, GNA – The Bosome Freho District Assembly has commissioned 22 mechanised boreholes in communities across the district to improve access to potable water.
The project, implemented under the leadership of Mr Charles Appiah Kubi, the District Chief Executive (DCE), is aimed at addressing longstanding water challenges confronting rural communities, particularly during the dry season.
Mr Appiah Kubi, speaking at the event, said the project was in response to appeals from communities that had over the years struggled to access safe drinking water.
“Water is life. As an Assembly, we cannot achieve our development goals if our people still walk miles for water. These 22 boreholes are a demonstration of our commitment to bring relief to our people,” he said.
He said the boreholes were strategically sited based on a needs assessment conducted by the Assembly, with support from the District Works Department and traditional authorities.
According to the DCE, the intervention would not only improve health and sanitation but also enhance school attendance and economic activities, particularly for women and children who bore the brunt of water scarcity.
Mr Appiah Kubi urged beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and protect them against abuse and theft.
He also called on the Water and Sanitation Management Teams (WSMTs) to ensure the proper maintenance of the facilities to prolong their lifespan.
Traditional leaders and residents who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude to the Assembly and the government for the intervention, describing it as timely.
Nana Appiah Nuamah, the Chief of Tebeso II, said the provision of the boreholes would bring an end to years of dependence on unsafe water sources.
The 22 boreholes form part of development interventions initiated under Mr Appiah Kubi’s administration.
Other projects include two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and two school blocks, which commenced in December last year.
The beneficiary communities are Amormoso, Korchikrom, Tebeso I, Tebeso II, Ahwiaso, Besease, Semdadieso, Fereboye, Anyaso and Bobiam.
