Wa (UWR), July 19, GNA – Mrs Mary Wondoh, Principal of Prevailers Technical/Vocational Institute, has underscored the critical role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in promoting sustainable development and reducing unemployment in the country.
She said TVET remained one of the most effective means of equipping the youth with practical skills for employment, entrepreneurship and national development.
Mrs Wondoh said this at the graduation ceremony of 57 students who completed the National Certificate I (NC I), a one-year programme funded by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
“TVET education is a game changer. It offers the youth a unique opportunity to gain practical skills that are essential for employment and entrepreneurship,” she stated.
She urged the graduands to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their training to innovate and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s industrial and economic development.
Mr Edgard Eletoe, Headmaster of Prevailers Technical/Vocational Institute, commended the graduands for their discipline, determination and hard work throughout the programme.
He said the graduation ceremony also provided an opportunity for the institute to showcase its craftsmanship, capabilities and creativity to the public.
Mr Eletoe called for improved management and quality delivery within the TVET system to attract more young people into skills training as part of efforts to curb unemployment.
He also urged the public to discard the perception that vocational education was meant for the academically weak.
“The success story cannot be told without producing quality graduates from the institutions. I urge you all to be worthy ambassadors of CTVET and prove to the world that technical and vocational education is not for the unintelligent,” he said.
Mr Eletoe appealed to parents to encourage their children to pursue technical and vocational education to help strengthen the country’s human resource base.
The institute currently offers programmes in Fashion Design Technology, Building Construction Technology, Hospitality and Catering Management, Electrical Engineering Technology, General Textiles, including Kente weaving, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Mr Abdul Rahaman Mohammed Saani expressed appreciation to CTVET and the institute for the knowledge, practical skills and guidance they received during the training.
He said the programme had equipped the graduates with competencies that would enable them to grow both personally and professionally.
“We are confident that this training has prepared us for the future, and we promise to put what we have learned into practice and make the institution proud,” he said.
