Effia(WR), July 30, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE) has engaged the leadership of three tertiary institutions on the need to lead Anti-Corruption initiatives in their institutions to positively influence society.
The schools are; University of Mines and Technology, Ketan Campus, Takoradi Technical University and the Nurses and Midwifery Training College.
Mr. Andrew Ofori Larbi , the Western Regional Director of the NCCE said, the education was to empower Ghanaians to fight against corruption and uphold the Rule of Law for a more harmonised society.
He said, there was the imperative reason to change the way governance worked in the country, stressing that transparency, accountability and ethics should drive leadership to do well for the country first.
Mr. Larbi advised them to end vote trading which had become a huge canker in Ghanaian politics and rather embrace competence, integrity and patriotism.
Mr. Ambrose Kwaku Aboakyi, the Dean of Students of the NMTC was worried that the country lost three billion dollars to corruption each year monies that could build better roads, schools, hospital and improve on the general wellbeing of Ghanaians.
Mr. Gilbert Afriyie, Assembly member for Poase , New Takoradi said, corruption was terrible than illegal mining; “it is destroying every aspect of our society and must be stopped now…let measure our needs and wants as a people”.
Madam Efua Yankson, the Acting Director of the CHRAJ urged them to avoid conflict of interest, report corruption and advance more on personal integrity and values to save motherland from the mess of corruption.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Achegeba, said offenses were crimes punishable by law adding, “any action, intention that result in harm is a crime”.
He encouraged the students to be abreast with the laws of Ghana and stay safe.
