Kadjebi (O/R), July 31, GNA – A three-day power outage that started at 0311 hours on Wednesday, July 29, has disrupted economic and social activities across the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, leaving residents and businesses counting their losses.
The outage has affected homes, markets, health facilities, drinking spots, cold stores, communication centres and small-scale businesses that rely on electricity for their daily operations.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to shops in Kadjebi township, Dodi-Papase, Asato, Okanta and nearby communities showed that several businesses had either closed or were operating at reduced capacity due to the power interruption.
Mr Robert Kwame Mensah, a cold store operator in Kadjebi, said the outage had caused significant financial losses as frozen fish and other perishable goods were at risk of spoiling.
“I have spent money buying ice blocks and fuel for a small generator, but I cannot keep it running throughout the day. If power is not restored soon, I will lose a substantial amount of my stock,” he said.
Madam Grace Owusu, a hairdresser in Kadjebi, said the outage had brought her business to a standstill.
“Our work depends entirely on electricity. Since the power went off, customers have stopped coming because we cannot use our hair dryers, clippers and other equipment. We have lost income over the past three days,” she said.
Mr Samuel Kofi Agyemang, a phone and electronic accessories dealer at Dodi-Papase, also expressed concern, saying many residents were unable to charge their mobile phones, affecting communication and mobile money transactions.
“The outage has affected almost every business in town. Customers only come to ask where they can charge their phones, but we also have no electricity. Businesses are suffering,” he said.
Some residents appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to expedite efforts to restore power and provide timely information on the cause of the outage.
They said the prolonged interruption had created difficulties for households, students, and traders whose livelihoods depended on electricity.
As of the time of filing this report, power had not been restored.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) on July 29, 2026, attributed the outage to the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system, resulting in an interruption of electricity supply.
