Techiman, (Bono East) July 30, GNA- Mr Kweku Adjei Mensah, the Techiman Metropolitan Chief Executive in the Bono East Region has justified the expansion and upgrade of the Techiman Central Market, under the government’s 24-Hour Market projects.

He explained that the central market was widely recognised as one of the largest Open-Air markets in the West Africa sub-region and served as a vital commercial hub in the country.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, Mr Mensah noted that scores of traders across Ghana and from neighboring countries like Burkina Faso also used the market.

He said that often created congestion, and that the upgrade of the market also followed growing public concern about the congestion.

Mr Mensah commended the government for the 24 Hour Market projects, saying that on completion the facility would not only provide enough space for the traders and buyers, but also boost economic growth and development.

The project is also expected to open new opportunities for young entrepreneurs, spur job creation, and significantly boost revenue for the Metropolis, he added.

Mr Mensah described the expansion of the market project as a major turning point for businesses in the region and urged the traders to cooperate with the contractors.

He said the construction work on the project was progressing steadily, assuring that it would be completed within six months and handed over for use.
