New York, July 5 (dpa/GNA) – Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were officially married in a ceremony on Friday, Swift’s publicist Tree Paine said in a statement.
The ceremony was officiated by actor Adam Sandler, according to the statement. Swift’s brother Austin Swift served as her “Man of Honor,” it added. Madison Square Garden, where rumours had suggested the wedding might take place, also referenced the couple on social media platform X on Friday evening.
The post linked the couple’s X accounts with the caption “it’s a love story,” a reference to Swift’s 2008 song Love Story. It showed a message outside the Manhattan venue reading “JUST&T MARRIED.”
The couple had previously not confirmed any wedding plans, with uncertainty around when or if they would marry. Speculation regarding a potential July 4th weekend wedding intensified following significant security measures and logistics activity around Madison Square Garden.
The rumours were fuelled by high-profile celebrity sightings in New York City, including Hugh Grant, Bradley Cooper, and Ed Sheeran, alongside reports of extensive security fencing and street closures.
Throughout Friday evening, numerous vehicles with tinted windows arrived at the venue. According to media reports, about 100 guests attended a dinner at Madison Square Garden the night before the wedding, while around 1,000 were invited to Friday’s wedding celebration.
The White House also joined the online reaction to the wedding, posting a spoof image on X showing digital signs outside Madison Square Garden reading “Trump is your president” instead of the venue’s “JUST&T MARRIED!” announcement.
Trump had previously criticized Swift after she endorsed his Democratic rival, former vice president Kamala Harris, in the 2024 presidential election. The celebrations came during a busy weekend for New York, with events surrounding the US Independence Day holiday and the World Cup, while the city was also experiencing a heatwave.
The crowds and high temperatures, however, did little to deter Swift fans, known as Swifties, from gathering outside the arena.
Swift, one of the world’s best-selling recording artists, and Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, have been together since 2023. They announced their engagement on Instagram last August.
