Bechem (Ahafo), July 31, GNA – The Tano South Municipal Assembly in the Ahafo Region has held its annual town hall meeting to render accounts to the people.
The event, held at Bechem, the Municipal capital was on the theme: “Accounting to the people of the municipality”.
It offered the opportunity for Mr Charles Asiedu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tano South Constituency, to explain the concept and purpose of the MP’s Common Fund, MP’s share of the GETFUND and the MP’s share of the Insurance Fund as well as the MP’s Social Intervention Fund.
Mr Aseidu expressed his contentment for being able to fulfil his major Election 2024 campaign promises of facilitating the establishment of the offices of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Quality Control office of the Ghana Cocoa Board in the area.
He pledged his dedication to tackle the emerging development needs in the local communities and entreated the electorate to maintain their confidence in him and the President John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Mr Abdul Salam Rahman, the Tano South Municipal Coordinating Director, explained that the forum was necessary to build public trust and rally the support of the community members towards the holistic development of the municipality.
“If we inform the people about how our revenues are utilized, they will also contribute to the development of the municipality”, he stated.
Mr Rahman explained that the assembly remained committed to bringing the development of the municipality to the next level and aspired to be “the best of all 261 Assemblies in the country”.
Mr Charles Adjei Awuah, the Tano South Municipal Development Planning Officer, explained that the Assembly invested a lot in agriculture, health, education, water and sanitation and physical infrastructure development in 2025.
He added the assembly also implemented some social interventions programmes and also supported People with Disabilities.
Nana Asiwobour Osei Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of the Bechem Traditional Area, commended the Assembly for its commitment towards progressive and sustainable development.
He called on the government to do more and complete some abandoned development projects initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Nana Bonsu indicated that development was about the people, not political parties, stressing his dedication to ensure that the municipality equally benefited from the sharing of the national cake.
