Obuasi (Ash), July 27, GNA – Stakeholders have commended AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine for its commitment to improving community health following the successful organisation of its second Community Mini Clinic for 2026 at Obuasi Zongo.
The initiative, which brought together government representatives, health professionals, community leaders and beneficiaries, was praised as a significant contribution towards improving health outcomes in the Mine’s host communities through sustained investment in preventive healthcare.
Speaking at the outreach programme, Madam Faustilove Appiah Kanin, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, applauded AngloGold Ashanti for complementing government’s efforts by providing quality healthcare services directly to communities and investing in health infrastructure with lasting social impact.
She said the Mine’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services were positively affecting the lives of residents and urged community members to take advantage of the programme to improve their health.
Mr Edmund Oduro Agyei, Director of Sustainability Management at AngloGold Ashanti, reaffirmed the Mine’s commitment to improving community wellbeing through its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).
He disclosed that since the Community Mini Clinic programme was introduced in 2021, more than 20,000 people had benefited from free preventive healthcare services.
The outreach, organised in partnership with the AGA Health Foundation, Megaforce Security, Procrest Africa, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Ghana Health Service, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), and district assemblies in the Obuasi enclave, provided free medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, eye and dental care, tuberculosis testing, laboratory services, nutritional counselling, deworming, health education, body mass index assessment and gynaecological screening.
Dr Wunam Abdul Basit, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the AGA Health Foundation and representative of SOGOG, educated participants on uterine fibroids and stressed the importance of early detection.
He encouraged women to take advantage of the free screening services provided under the programme to improve their reproductive health.
Beneficiaries also commended AngloGold Ashanti and its partners for prioritising their health needs by bringing essential healthcare services closer to them.
They said the initiative had improved access to healthcare while reducing the time and cost associated with seeking medical attention, describing the outreach as timely, impactful and beneficial to the wellbeing of communities within the Obuasi enclave.
