Agbozume (V/R), July 23, GNA — The Somè Traditional Council has officially launched the 50th edition of Somètutu Za, with a strong call for investment in youth development as a pathway to socio-cultural preservation and economic growth.
The colourful launch brought together political authorities, chiefs, queen mothers, the clergy, students and members of the public, and featured rich traditional music and dance performances that showcased the cultural heritage of the Somè people.
Most attendees commended the organisers for a well-coordinated programme and expressed anticipation for the main festival celebration scheduled for September this year.
Torgbuiaga Adama III, the Paramount Chief of the Somè Traditional Area, said this year’s theme, “Harnessing the Potential of the Youth for Socio-Cultural Preservation, Economic Prosperity and Tourism Development to Foster Peace and Unity,” placed young people at the centre of the Somé’s development agenda.
He noted that the youth must be equipped with relevant skills, education, mentorship, and employment opportunities to actively contribute to national development, while also embracing discipline, responsibility, and cultural identity.
The Paramount Chief urged young people to desist from social vices such as drug abuse, crime and violence, and rather channel their energies into productive ventures including entrepreneurship, agriculture, aquaculture, tourism and technology.
He highlighted opportunities within the Somè Traditional Area, including salt production, fisheries, cross-border trade and tourism, and encouraged the youth to take advantage of these sectors.
Torgbuiaga Adama also announced plans to roll out a Somè Youth Economic Empowerment Initiative aimed at promoting skills training, innovation and job creation.
He emphasised that combining traditional knowledge with modern technology would be key to unlocking the full potential of the youth and ensuring sustainable development.
