Police await technical assessment in Industrial Area building collapse probe

Accra, July 30, GNA – The Accra Regional Police Command is collaborating with state institutions to determine the cause of the building collapse at Industrial Area that killed three people.

The incident occurred on June 7, 2026, at Avenor, opposite Melcom Plus, in the Industrial Area, Accra.

A police statement signed by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Architectural and Engineering Services Limited and other agencies were conducting technical assessments to establish whether the collapse resulted from structural defects or other factors.

The statement said the institutions were also assessing the structural integrity of the affected building and adjoining structures to determine appropriate measures, including whether nearby buildings should be demolished or declared unsafe.

It noted that such determinations fell within the mandate of the relevant technical and regulatory authorities.

Meanwhile, the statement said Moro Badaru, arrested in connection with the incident on June 13, 2026, had been granted police enquiry bail and was assisting with investigations.

The Command assured the public that investigations were ongoing and that anyone found to have acted negligently or in violation of the law would be dealt with accordingly.

It urged the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation while investigations and technical assessments continued.
