Tema, July 11, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its Tema Central Constituency executive elections, which were scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Chemu Senior High School in Tema.
More than 1,100 delegates were expected to vote in the election.
A message sent to delegates by Mr Charles Baah, the Tema Central Constituency Elections Officer, announced the postponement, stating that “We regret to announce the postponement of our elections slated for today. Further communications will be issued in due course.”
The postponement followed an interim injunction granted by the Tema High Court restraining the party from conducting the election.
A certified true copy of the order dated July 9, 2026, and sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), showed that Justice Cynthia Wiredu granted the interim injunction following an ex parte application filed by Mr Francis Agyei Twum and Mr Joseph Emmanuel De-Graft Johnson.
The court restrained Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP; Madam Sandra Sarkodie-Addo, the Head of the Tema Central Constituency Elections Committee; Mr Charles Ogyeabour Boateng, the Tema Central Constituency Chairman; the Tema Regional Police Commander; and their agents or assigns, from conducting the election pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The court order said, the dispute concerned the use of a revised polling station album or register from which the names of 145 existing polling station executives, including the plaintiffs, were allegedly omitted.
The court directed that the interim injunction should remain in force for 10 days pending the determination of the case, hence the elections have since been postponed, with the party expected to announce a new date.
