Asante-Mampong (Ash), July 19, GNA – Mr Peter Abum Sarkodie, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Mampong, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to strengthen its structures and work hard at the grassroots to bring the party back to power.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Asante-Mampong, Mr Sarkodie said one major factor that would help the NPP, was its ability to connect well with people at the grassroots to be able to return to power.
He said when the party won back the support of the grassroots, it would become stronger, which would go a long way to help its fortunes.
“For me, the grassroots forms part of the foundation of the party and needs to be strengthened solidly,” he said.
He called for the rebuilding of the party’s foundations through visits to remote communities, building friendships with residents, and supporting them.
Mr Sarkodie said that after successful constituency elections, the party must not wait until close to national elections before campaigning but must continue to highlight its achievements to the public.
“We must explain well the NPP’s policies and works to the small communities,” he said.
Mr Sarkodie who is also a former Executive Director, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said every executive member, supporter and sympathiser of the party had a duty to propagate the NPP’s message, stressing that winning back power in 2028 was possible if the party remained united and worked hard towards a common goal.
He urged party members to bury their differences and work as a team, supporting one another to achieve their shared objective.
Mr Sarkodie further urged the NPP leadership to remain focused and support ordinary party faithful and sympathisers to win back their trust and confidence, adding that community engagement must not be taken for granted.
“NPP must arise and work hard at the community level more than ever,” he added.
He said a much stronger political force was needed by the NPP, which could be achieved through committed leadership, unity, love and hard work in all corners of the country and reiterated that all internal differences must be settled for unity to prevail ahead of the 2028 election.
