Sunyani (Bono), July 31, GNA – Dr Lawrence Akosen, the Senior Manager, Customer Experience Planning and Enablement of MTN Ghana, says the telecommunication company is investing $380 million this year to expand network and strengthen its resilience.
He said as the company celebrated its 30th anniversary, it considered the amount not as an investment for its own sake, but it existed to ensure effective call connections, clear transactions, or quick problem solving for its clients.
Speaking at a media and stakeholders’ engagement in Sunyani, Dr Akosen said MTN Ghana had committed a $1.1 billion investment in the country over the next three years, saying that: “The infrastructure is already there, ready to meet you.”
Participants including news editors, and representatives from the National Communications Authority were drawn from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions.
Dr Akosen reaffirmed MTN’s dedication to providing quality and innovative services and products to its customers, justifying that: “Now just think about the trader in Techiman who no longer travels to town to resolve a SIM issue.
The farmer near Berekum whose transaction goes through without a second thought and the student in Goaso who answers a call the first time, without dropping it.”
Dr Akosen emphasised that: “Every call made, every transaction completed, every business supported represents a choice you made to trust us.
“We do not take that for granted and as we mark this milestone, we remain committed to listening to you, learning from your feedback, and shaping our service around what you tell us not what we assume.”
He also touched on the theme for the anniversary, which is: “30 years of progress, powered by you,” stressing that this was not a slogan about the Company, but rather an acknowledgement that everything MTN had built over three decades existed because of the trust of its customers, regulators, business partners, community leaders, and media.”
Dr Akosen added that: “Whatever growth we celebrate today is really your progress, made visible,” saying that: “Think about what’s changed in Ghana over these thirty years”.
He said communities once cut off from reliable communication were now connected to the world, adding that entrepreneurs in these three regions now reach customers far beyond their immediate towns.
“Business transacts in ways that once seemed unimaginable, and none of that happened because of a network alone. It happened because you used that network to build something for yourselves,” he stated.
Dr Akosen indicated that since 1996, MTN’s investments in connectivity and service had been shaped around a simple question: “what do our stakeholders need from us?
“Today’s customers expect service that does not ask them to travel, wait, or repeat themselves and so we have worked to bring that service to every touchpoint you use our centres, our partner outlets, our digital channels, so that where you are should never determine what you can access,” he stated.
He noted that across the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions, connectivity was helping farmers, traders, students, and entrepreneurs get more out of every day.
“Their success is the real story here, proof that connectivity is never the end goal, it is a means for you to unlock opportunity, strengthen your community, and improve your own life on your own terms.”
Dr Akosen expressed appreciation to media partners, for helping the company to engage the public honestly, for telling stories fairly, and “for holding up a mirror that helps us improve”.
He also commended the company’s regulators, business partners and community stakeholders for their continuous collaboration and “the standards you’ve held us to,” concluding that: “Our growth has always depended on your partnership, not just our own effort”.
In a panel discussion, Mr David Nana Addai, MTN’s Mobile Money (MOMO) Manager for Northern Ghana, also assured of quality services, and urged borrowers on the MOMO platform to endeavour to repay their loans.
