Dzodze (V/R), July 19, GNA – Rev Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, has secured support for the construction of a new 20-seater public toilet at Zongo Junction after the demolition of the old facility for road construction.
Speaking during a visit to the project site on Thursday, Rev Amenaki said the old public toilet was demolished as part of the Dualization of Dzodze Township Road project because it was located within the road reservation.
He explained that the facility was the only public toilet serving residents in the electoral area, making it necessary to provide an immediate replacement to avoid sanitation challenges.
“The Assembly Member approached me and appealed for support because once this old structure is demolished, the community will have no public place of convenience. We considered the request and decided to seek external support,” he said.
Rev Amenaki disclosed that although the Municipal Assembly was unable to fully finance the project, he appealed to NAG Fairmount Construction Limited, the contractor executing the road project, to support the community as part of its corporate social responsibility.
He said the contractor responded positively by donating GHS100,000 towards the construction of the new toilet facility.
“I immediately handed the money over to the Assembly Member and the community to procure building materials. However, the amount is not sufficient to complete the entire project, so I again appealed to the contractor for earth-moving equipment to clear the site and excavate the foundation,” he said.
The MCE said the contractor had since deployed heavy equipment to clear the site and dig the foundation, while residents would provide communal labour to reduce construction costs.
He appealed to residents to actively participate in the communal labour and safeguard building materials to ensure the timely completion of the project.
Rev Amenaki said the new 20-seater water closet facility would replace the old dilapidated structure and improve sanitation for residents of Zongo Junction.
Mr Ambrose Dedo, Assembly Member for the Kpodoave Electoral Area, said construction materials, including cement, chippings and blocks, had already been procured for the project.
He noted that residents had expressed their readiness to provide communal labour to accelerate the construction of works.
Mr Dedo thanked NAG Fairmount Construction Limited for its financial and logistical support and commended the Municipal Assembly, led by Rev Amenaki, for facilitating the intervention.
He expressed confidence that with continued support from the community and other stakeholders, the new public toilet would be completed on schedule to serve residents of the area.
