He was elected on the seventh round of voting by the 36-member assembly, which comprised 25 elected members and 11 government appointees.

Mr Maxwell Fudzi Vanscofly of the Lambussie District office of the Electoral Commission EC supervised the Election.

After six rounds of voting, which all failed to determine a PM for the Assembly, Mr Bamie, also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonzele Rural Bank, filed a nomination to contest.

Mr Bamie, who contested unopposed, polled 28 “Yes” votes, representing 73.68 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

He was sworn in by His Worship Thomas Boadi Soyori of the Jirapa District Magistrate Court at the weekend.

Mr Bamie expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to operate an open-door administration to enable all members to contribute meaningfully to the development of the district.

He gave the assurance that he would work assiduously to bring progress and development to the people of the Lambussie District.

He also called for unity and collaboration among the members to spur development in their respective electoral areas and the district as a whole.

Mr Bamie further urged the members to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity to ensure the growth of the District.

Mr Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie, the Lambussie District Chief Executive (DCE), expressed gratitude to the Assembly Members for electing a presiding member in the district.

He said: “Today is the happiest day in my life. I am extremely happy we finally have someone to steer the affairs of the assembly”.
