Takoradi, July 20, GNA – Mr Kwasi Bonzoh, a hopeful for the position of Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to work towards recapturing parliamentary seats lost by the party in the region ahead of the 2028 general election.
He said the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) victories in most constituencies in the Western Region during the last elections demonstrated that no constituency should be considered unwinnable if the party strengthened its grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Bonzoh said he intended to focus on building the capacity of party structures at the polling station level.
“I am a polling station man, and we all know that elections are won from here, I am going to train and upgrade strategies going into elections 2028.”
Mr Bonzoh stated that a future NPP administration would require a strong parliamentary majority to effectively implement its policies.
He said party members must unite and work together to secure victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2028.
He expressed optimism that constituencies won by the NDC in the last election could be reclaimed by the NPP.
“If the NDC was able to win Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Kwesimintsim in the last parliamentary elections then NPP can win Amenfi West and East in 2028,” he said.
Mr Bonzoh described the party’s current parliamentary representation in the Western region as disappointing.
“It is regrettable that out of the 17 seats in the region, the NPP has only two. But I promise you, we will recapture Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Sekondi, Kwesimintsim, Jomoro, Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira and all constituencies we have won before.”
Mr Bonzoh, a former District Chief Executive for Ellembele and a parliamentary candidate of the party in the area for 16 years, said he had acquired extensive experience in party organisation and administration.
He said as Regional Secretary of the NPP, he would restore unity within the party and strengthen grassroots structures to make the NPP more cohesive and competitive in the region.
He also called for a peaceful internal campaign process devoid of insults, intimidation and violence.
