SAO PAULO, July 2 (Xinhua/GNA) — At least five people were killed Wednesday, in a high-impact collision between a car and a truck on a federal highway near the municipality of Campos Novos in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, authorities said.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the impact of the crash split the car in two, and left the roadway partially blocked for several hours, as rescue workers recovered the bodies and the vehicles were removed.
Emergency teams said the truck driver, a 44-year-old man, survived the crash. Four men and a woman traveling in the car all died from their injuries.
Authorities have yet to release information regarding the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation.
