Accra, July 21, GNA – Queen Mothers from Ga‑Mashie have launched initiatives to tackle teenage pregnancy, school dropouts, domestic violence, drug abuse and poverty in their communities.
The Ga‑Mashie Manyemei Kpee announced the move during a courtesy call on Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, in Accra.
Led by Naa Amorkor Shika Futru I of Asere Amartse We, Planning Committee Chairman, the group said they had established committees on Gender, Education, Welfare and Culture to drive interventions.
They also disclosed plans to visit the Usher Town Maternity Home to support mothers and newborns with hospital logistics and essential items.
The Queen Mothers presented projects for which they sought partnership with the Ministry, including a skills training centre for women and youth, a youth cooking competition and donation of educational materials.
They called for stronger collaboration with the Ministry to address pressing social challenges confronting women, children and vulnerable persons.
The group expressed appreciation to the Minister for her leadership in women’s empowerment, child protection and social inclusion.
Dr Lartey commended the Queen Mothers, saying their role as traditional leaders placed them in a unique position to identify problems early and mobilise communities for solutions.
She highlighted interventions being implemented by the Ministry in areas raised, including empowerment, welfare and support for vulnerable persons.
Dr Lartey noted that the concerns aligned with the Ministry’s mandate and assured them of readiness to explore collaboration.
She encouraged continued engagement with relevant departments to develop practical and sustainable partnerships.
Dr Lartey stressed that advancing women, protecting children and promoting social inclusion required shared responsibility between government and communities.
