Accra, July 30, GNA – The Black Queens of Ghana kicked off their 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign on a winning note after defeating Cape Verde 2-0 in a Group C match on Wednesday.
The Black Queens produced a disciplined and confident display, dominating possession for long spells and creating the better scoring opportunities to secure all three points.
Ghana settled into the game quickly, pressing high and forcing the Cape Verdeans onto the defensive.
Their attacking intent paid off as the Black Queens found the net through Doris Boaduwaa in the seventh minute, delighting the Ghanaian supporters in attendance.
The second goal arrived after the break when an own goal by Eleia Vieira gave the Black Queens a comfortable lead.
Cape Verde attempted to respond with a more adventurous approach in the second half but struggled to penetrate Ghana’s well-marshalled defence, as the Black Queens comfortably saw out the game.
The victory gives Ghana an important three points and a confidence boost ahead of their remaining group fixtures, while Cape Verde will be looking to recover in their next outing.
The win places Ghana in a strong position early in the group stage as they continue their quest for a successful campaign at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
