Obuasi (Ash), July 28, GNA – The AGA Health Foundation, an NGO in partnership with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), has successfully concluded a three-day free gynaecological surgical outreach for women residing in Obuasi and its environs.
The medical outreach was carried out through the support of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, and it provided life-changing surgeries for 71 women, with 49 additional surgeries scheduled before the end of the year.
Out of more than 650 women screened during the programme, 120 were diagnosed with gynaecological conditions requiring surgical intervention.
Held from July 24–26, 2026, at the AGA Health Foundation in Obuasi, the outreach offered free specialist surgeries for women diagnosed with conditions including uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, genital prolapse, genital masses and other reproductive health complications.
Dr Kwadwo Boahene Atua Anim, Executive Director of the AGA Health Foundation, speaking at the closing ceremony, described the initiative as a major step towards improving access to specialist women’s healthcare, while removing financial barriers to treatment.
He noted that the outreach surpassed expectations, adding that the remaining 49 surgery cases would be carried out before the end of the year.
Dr Anim assured beneficiaries that the Foundation would continue to provide comprehensive post-operative care and follow-up services to ensure full recovery.
“This programme has enabled us to restore hope and improve the quality of life for many women.
“We remain committed to ensuring that every eligible patient receives the care they need, even after the outreach has ended,” he said.
Although the programme primarily targeted women from Obuasi and surrounding communities, it attracted participants from across Ghana, underscoring the growing demand for accessible specialist gynaecological services.
The Foundation also encouraged women to prioritise regular health screening and seek early medical attention for reproductive health conditions, stressing that, early diagnosis and timely treatment were essential to preventing complications and improving health outcomes.
The outreach formed part of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s broader commitment to improving community health through strategic partnerships, expanding access to quality healthcare and enhancing the wellbeing of its host communities.
