Munich, July 5, (dpa/GNA) – A 19-year-old from the southern German city of Bayreuth has died in the mountains in the Berchtesgadener Land region of the Bavarian Alps.
The young man’s relatives reported him missing on Friday morning, the police said on Saturday. A search was launched immediately, with helicopters and drones also deployed.
The search was based on the last known location provided by the missing man’s colleagues. Rescue teams finally found him in the late afternoon at the Fuderheustein near Piding.
He is believed to have fallen down a 200-metre steep gully late the previous evening, the police report added. The Piding Border Police’s Alpine Task Force East has taken charge of the investigation.
The area lies on the border between Germany and Austria.
