Kadjebi (O/R), July 04, GNA – The Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall of the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC) has been selected as the venue for the Akan Constituency executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), scheduled for Saturday, July 11, with 1,012 delegates expected to cast their ballots.
The election will see 20 aspirants contesting 11 executive positions to lead the party in the constituency for the next four years.
Mr Bashiru Sabitiou Yeziru, the Akan Constituency Research and Elections Officer of the NPP, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi, in the Oti Region.
He said three incumbent executives had retained their positions unopposed. They are Mr Rabiu Awale, Constituency Chairman; Mr Merigah Abdul Sataru, Constituency Secretary; and Mr Alhassan Sam Shamoon, Nasara Coordinator.
Mr Yeziru said the First Vice-Chairmanship position would be contested by Mr Noah Kwame Wadja, former Presiding Member of the Kadjebi District Assembly, and Mr Francis Agorson, former District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator.
He said the Second Vice-Chairmanship race would feature Mr Adams Mutawakil, former Assembly Member for the Dzindziso Electoral Area, and Ms Fati Iddrisu.
According to him, the Deputy Secretary position would be contested by Mr Ewormvor Richard Senyo and the incumbent, Mr Bedi Frank Yevuyibor, while the Organiser position would be contested by the incumbent, Mr Joseph Nana Oboako, a former Kadjebi District Director of NADMO, and Mr Rashid Ibrahim, Assembly Member for the Poase-Cement Electoral Area.
Mr Yeziru said the Youth Organiser position would be contested by Mr Kelebe Paapa and Mr Adams Nafiu, Assembly Member for the Yadzo Electoral Area, while the Communications Officer position would pit the incumbent, Mr Frank Adjei Worlanyo, against Mr Mustapha Ahmed.
He said the Women’s Organiser position would be contested by the incumbent, Madam Nyam Abena Bigornu, and Madam Annatu Yussif, Assembly Member for the Zongo/Estate Electoral Area.
Mr Yeziru said the Treasurer position had attracted three aspirants—the incumbent, Mrs Kwadade Cardigah Kafui, Mr Abubakar Sedick and Mr Mashood Abiola Amusum—making it the most keenly contested race.
He expressed optimism that the elections would be peaceful, transparent and credible.
He urged delegates to conduct themselves in an orderly manner throughout the exercise.
Mr Yeziru also appealed to aspirants and their supporters to campaign on issues, refrain from insults, personal attacks and name-calling, and accept the outcome of the election in good faith.
He said maintaining unity after the elections would be crucial to strengthening the party’s structures in the constituency ahead of future political activities and elections.
