Sunyani, (Bono), June 18, GNA – Mr Yaw Mahama Afful, a former Deputy Minister of Aviation, has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to avoid shifting blame on one another for the party’s humiliating defeat in the Election 2024.
He emphasised that blame games and criticisms would only divide the rank and file and narrow the political fortunes of the NPP in the Election 2028.
“What we must concentrate on now is to accept our defeat and collectively identify and find solutions to our internal problems that contributed to our defeat as we go for the Election 2028,” he stated.
Mr Afful, also a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Jaman South in the Bono Region, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that the NPP ought to be formidable if the party could regain political power.
He announced his intention to contest for the Bono Regional Chairman slot of the NPP, saying that the party required leadership changes at the regional and constituency levels.
Mr Afful emphasised that as the pillars of the NPP, the party required well experienced, patriotic and dedicated members to lead the party at the grassroots levels.
He said the supreme interest of the NPP ought to be paramount and overshadow the personal interest of individuals if the NPP could bounce back to political power in 2028.
The former MP said it was unfortunate that the NPP lost 11 out of the 12 constituency parliamentary seats in the region.
That notwithstanding, Mr Afful said with strengthened unity, the party could regain its past glories, and urged the members and supporters to remain confident, bury their differences and forge ahead in unity.
He said he remained compassionate in addressing the emerging needs of the NPP and the general welfare of the loyal and dedicated members and supporters of the party.
“In fact, what we need now as a great party is nothing else than leadership changes, especially at the regional and constituency levels for us to make impacts and win the General Election ahead of us”, Mr Afful advised.
He said with the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the Election 2028 flagbearer of the NPP, the party had the upper hand to win back political power.
Mr Afful called on members and supporters of the party, especially those who felt disgruntled to forgive each other’s offences and remained formidable.
He pledged his dedication in ensuring that the NPP did not only regain the constituency parliamentary seats in the region in the Election 2028 but also ensure that the party in general won the election and returned to political power.
“My vision for the NPP is great and what I require from our delegates is for them to make informed decisions and endorse me,” Mr Afful, also a businessman and farmer concluded.
