Sogakope (V/R), June 18, GNA – Residents of Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region poured onto the streets in jubilant celebration following Ghana’s victory over Panama in an international football match played on Wednesday.
The celebrations, which stretched into the early hours of Thursday, saw scores of residents, particularly commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, riding through the principal streets of the town amid cheers, singing and the sounding of horns.
Some of the riders showcased their riding skills by performing daring manoeuvres and drifting with their motorcycles as enthusiastic supporters cheered them on.
The jubilant crowd, many draped in the national colours of red, gold and green, expressed optimism about the future of the Black Stars and called on the team to maintain its winning mentality.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some residents urged the Black Stars to remain focused and disciplined in subsequent matches and work tirelessly towards winning the FIFA World Cup trophy for Ghana.
“We believe the team has what it takes to make the nation proud. The players should stay disciplined, work as a unit and outwit every opponent they face,” one football enthusiast said.
Others commended the technical team, especially the coach, for what they described as his tactical acumen and wealth of experience, which they said had contributed significantly to the team’s recent performances.
“The coach has brought experience and confidence to the team. We are seeing improvements and we hope this momentum will continue,” another resident noted.
The celebrations reportedly began around 0100 hours, with groups of residents and motor riders moving through various parts of the town in an atmosphere of excitement and national pride.
Although the jubilations were largely peaceful, some residents appealed to motor riders to observe road safety regulations while celebrating to avoid accidents.
Many football lovers in the area expressed hope that the Black Stars would build on their victory and continue their impressive run in future competitions.
